In this case, rig the bait with the darker color on top and the lighter color on bottom. This imitates the natural color orientation of a baitfish. If a soft plastic has a straight back then chances are it needs to be put onto the jighead in such a manner that it remains straight. This Vortex Shad is not correctly rigged onto the jighead. The body needs to be straight so it swims correctly. You want the body straight so the paddle tail can do its job. Also, the hook is exposed enough so it can better hook the fish.
