Review this service yourself. I attended for gastroscopy last week- kind, thoughtful care, good explanations, lovely nurses, despite dreading the procedure not too bad- and they gave me results straight away to reduce worry.
Your Antenatal Care
I had a very positive experience during a recent stay in hospital, followed by an operation as a day patient. The staff on Shuttleworth were marvellous, the care I received from the consultant and team throughout and for my operation was excellent and the staff on Tavistock were wonderful too. Thankyou all for the fantastic care and treatment I received. I have been an in-patient at this hospital 3 times during the last 5 years and every time the staff have treated me like a V. The hospital is clean and the nurses, doctors, consultants and auxillary staff are so helpful and friendly that, if I had to go into hospital and could choose any hospital in the country, this would be my choice.
I could not fault the treafment I recieved and my recovery was helped by the quality of the food.

This hospitals food would put many restaurants to shame. To find a better hospital would be virtually impossible. Well done Bedford South Wing. Until recently, I had always had a fairly good experience of Bedford hospital but that has now changed 2 months ago my GP referred me to the hospital as a priority to see the Gastroenterology department - I've still not heard anything about an appointment being booked.
Gastrointestinal and Liver services
In the meantime patients are left suffering with undiagnosed symptoms that are continuing to worsen. I understand that there are staff shortages, lack of funding, etc but can you at least just send an appointment, whether it's next week, next month, or whenever it may be, so patients at least know what's going on?? I visited the Endoscopy Dept yesterday for the 5 time and although this appointment was for 2. When I saw the nurse endoscopic I explained my resistance to Xylocaine and they suggested that I had a dose a few minutes before the procedure.
This was carried out and then topped up immediately before the procedure. I have mentioned this on all previous visits to no avail , so please give full marks to the nurse endoscopist. The staff at times seemed short in numbers and over stretched, but not once did I hear any member of staff complain, moan or object to their work load, they just "got on with it".
Ever member of staff helped out in the daily routine chores from the CSW's, staff nurses, sisters and the ward manager, even the housekeeper went above and beyond their duties to assist the running of the ward.
Although I don't like hospital stays, my time on Whitbread ward was made a lot more comfortable and relaxed by the committed, professional, caring and companionable staff on the ward both day and night shifts. There will be several images stored and you will also receive three thermal black and white images of your baby. Scans are undertaken by our trained and experienced hospital team, giving parents-to-be a better image of their baby with the added magic of seeing their little one moving around in real-time in the womb. This is not a diagnostic scan and no measurements will be taken but we can confirm the sex of your baby, if you want us to.

The appointments are around 45 minutes and available at the hospital on Monday evenings. During the appointment you may be asked to walk around, should your baby not be lying in a good position.
