Due to the aforementioned factors, I've conducted research on many different cities over the course of the past year and I keep coming back to Charleston as my top contender. I'll check them out! DI is a small community with a downtown, whereas Mt Pleasant is a BIG town with no real downtown , and where you live which subdivision will be your community. Both DI and Carolina Park are very walkable, have a great trail system, and are very close-knit with people of all ages and from all walks of life. We love Carolina Park for it's strong sense of community, beauty and amenities "on campus" - hospital, schools, fire station, soon to be library, and eventually retail and restaurants. Everyone in Carolina Park uses the Next Door app, and it's fostered a sense of togetherness.
Plus, most people here are from somewhere else, so we are all in the same boat trying to make connections.

We've met more people and become closer to our neighbors here, than we did at our last home where we lived for 15 years. Just the nature of the Northeast vs the South. People - even if they are not from here - are much more relaxed and friendly than up north. There are tons of "groups that have formed here in our development.
I belong to a women's walking group all ages , have just joined a photography club, and there is a group of women that go out to a different restaurant each month. Those are just a few. You will also meet people at the pool, etc. There are single family homes, townhomes, and soon to be apartments here for living.
