Well a few years has passed and things with our "little circle" has changed as most of us grew apart. It's been about 2 years since I saw the girl and that was only because our mutual friend had a dinner party. My best friend and I are still intact not as close as we used to be but still cool but the mutual friend I don't really speak or hear from her anymore, it's been about a year since I heard from her. In fact the girl is so distant my best friend don't hear or haven't spoken to her in a couple years either. He also went to high school with all of us; I didn't know him that well back then but he was always cool with my best friend.
I only knew that he dated the girl because of my best friend and the mutual friend used to gossip about it. They broke up last year and I heard from the gossip vine that it was from cheating on her part. That night we had small talk and then I spent the rest of the night enjoying with my girlfriend old co worker who I became really close with.
A week ago the guy msg me on Facebook we were Facebook friends for years inviting me out to another event this weekend.

He asked for my number so he can send me the info so I gave it to him. He called me right after and while he was supposed to send me the info we wind up having a convo for an hr catching up on high school and talking about life. Our convos were really deep and we talked about everything. He even talked about his ex and confirmed that they broke up a year ago due because she cheated.

He told me that he doesn't really talk to my best friend anymore or the mutual friend either because of the breakup and simply growing apart. Everyday after that he called and text me throughout the day leading all the way to yesterday. I decided I wasn't going to go to the event because my girlfriend wasn't able to go with me. He then asked if I can come with him and his friends and I agreed. Throughout the night he looked out after me and made sure I was ok.
He was flirting with me lightly by hugging me and touching my hands a few times but nothing more. At the end of the night he took me to a diner because I mentioned I was hungry then dropped me home. He called me and text me throughout the day today and I can feel the attraction between us.

But I can't help but to think that he dated someone who I used to know. I never told my "best friend" about it because I don't speak to her that much like we used to. But she's the only link between me and his ex.
If this was an ex of my best friend or close friend I would definitely stay away, but his ex is more of an acquaintance. Most people would say it's wrong to date an ex of a friend but is it wrong to date an ex of an acquaintance? Up above the world so high!

I would hate if the situation was reversed and someone I kinda knew we are friendly when we meet at mutual friends events did this as I like to think I come across as a nice person and I don't want anyone to think I am a bitch. I think it depends on how and why they broke up. If you had stolen him away not that you really can then there may have been something wrong but at the end of the day he was single you were single and that's all there really is to it.
