Before Jerusalem Fell: Dating the Book of Revelation
There are some portions that are highly technical. A very clinical book dealing with the date of the writing of the book of Revelation. Gentry- a Preterist who believes the entire book of Revelation was fulfilled at the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD- gives a very matter-of-a-fact account of his belief in the idea that the book was written by the Disciple John during Nero's reign.
Most modern day churches feel it was written much latter. An important subject, this is not light reading. Gentry gives a complete treatment to the subject, but it is a dry read. I do recommend it, but be ready to spend some time with it. This book may be one of the MOST vital books written in centuries.
The author has taken extensive time and intellect to research and compile critical evidence that the Book of Revelation was written about 65A. Josephus, the Jewish eyewitness of those event, records some of those signs in the Jewish Wars Book 6, chapter 5. Jesus told the people that the "end of the age" i. He told them to flee, and Eusebius reports that not one of those Believers died because they followed the instructions of Jesus which he told them about 40 years before Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman Army.
Christianity today is riddled with misguided theology that is based on Revelation being a book that was written AFTER the fall of Jerusalem. With such incorrect dating, the Revelation becomes a book of historical extrapolation that defies the mind, logic and reason. The metaphorical and radical style of writing was very much in tune with the "signs and wonders" that Jesus spoke of in the Olivet Discourse of Matt. Every Christian who believes in the Dispensational view which was started in by one man should receive enlightenment by this fantastic book which has never been held up to any ridicule in over 10 years since its publication.

Kenneth Gentry is a proven biblical writer on this confusing and controversial subject. If you are serious about exploring the correct biblical answer about this matter, then this book will definitely help you to understand that it. One person found this helpful. Anyone who thinks otherwise should read this book and see that there's no doubt whatsoever that the entire system of dispensational premillenial eschatology is an example of the Marketing Spirit driving what is taught rather than the Holy Spirit guiding what is taught.
The Rapture and End Times focus of so many authors and speakers has turned fatalism in the face of advancing evil into the norm for a great many Christians. Rendering unto Caesar what is Caesars doesn't include rendering unto Caesar the right to dictate morality, yet that's exactly what happens when so many millions of Christians become fatalistic due to being focused on how soon they're going to be part of the great Escape that's always just around the corner.
Pick up your cross, follow Christ, and stop worrying about whether you're watching and waiting like the wise Virgins. Christ knows His sheep and none will be forgotten because they were busy bringing in the harvest rather than nursing the oil for their lamp. This book not only covers the topic completely, it's an excellent example of how to approach the interpretation of Scriptures when there may be a question as to what a specific portion means or when there are many interpretations being preached.
All in all, a 'must have' book in my opinion. Gentry seems to leave no stones unturned as he makes his case for the early date view of Revelation. He also adequately critiques the best arguments for the late date view. The information is well researched and documented. The interested reader who is on the fence regarding this topic will have valuable information with which to make a more informed decision on this crucial topic.
This is a very unusual book. The first fifty pages preface deals with the author arguing against the folks that found fault with his research. A lot of references in this book. Based on the author's writing I have a tendency to agree with his findings.
